UPDATE: This guide has been revised as of January 28, 2008, using the latest version of PSPvideo 9 software.
Tired of choppy video playback on your new Sony Mylo? We were too, learn how to encode videos for the Sony Mylo using free software, PSP Video9.
- Get PSPvideo
- Select Settings tab (near top left corner)

- Under the Settings tab, select the Converter tab.
- Make sure Device and Profile options match what is shown in the image above for both “Encoding Profiles” and “One-Click Settings” sections.
- Click the button right corner button, “Save Converter Settings”
Edit Profile

- You should still be under the Settings / Converter tab, on the right side of this screen you should see a button labeled “Edit Profile” press this button.
- A new window should appear after selecting “Edit Profile”, in the new window select the Audio tab.
- Under the Audio tab you’ll want to change the Bitrate (kbps) option to 64.
- Select OK, and go back to the PSP Video9 window.
Device Folder

- Under the Settings tab select the Devices tab.
- You should now see a list of device tabs, select the PSP tab.
- The Device Folder section should match the drive letter of the Sony Mylo as it appears when connected to the PC. For example, when you connect your Sony Mylo to your PC and it appears as a “Removable Disk (D:)” that means the drive letter should be set to D:\ for the Device Folder Section.
- Under the Misc section make sure the Firmware Version is set to 1.50 and Legacy Video Support is enabled.
- Press “Save Device Settings” found in the button right corner.
Convert the Video

- Select the Convert tab and then select the Current Conversion tab.
- Press the “One-Click Convert” button found under the Conversion Queue section of this window.
- Choose the video you wish to convert and the program should begin conversion.
Note: Try not to have too many other applications running during the video conversion, CPU intensive applications could cause errors in the video encoding.
Transfer Videos to Sony Mylo

- Select the Library tab found near the top of the screen.
- You should be in the Local Files tab, highlight the video you wish to copy to your mylo.
- Have your mylo connected to your PC via USB cable.
- Click the button “Copy to Device” located in the lower right corner of the window.
- You should be prompted about a missing folder, asking if you want to create it, hit yes.

If there is any questions or problems, leave me a comment and I’ll do my best to help. If you have any tips you’d like to share I’d love to hear them as well.
Additional information regarding the mylo can be found at MyloForums.net

hi there! first off thanks for your great how-to!. I have not established all the profiles and settings like you have, but I did install and use PSPvideo9 and transferred an mpeg-4 file. It showed up on the MYLO (after disconnect) but when I go to play it says “error cannot play file” or something to that affect. Any ideas on why? thanks
December 16th, 2006 at 10:48 am
Shay,
I’m pretty sure it’s a settings problem in PSPvideo9. The mylo is very picky about the type of video it will accept, so simply using PSPvideo9 to transfer a mpeg-4 will not do.
This may sound strange, but even if the video is already in mpeg-4 file format, you may still need to reconvert it with the settings I listed in the how-to. The mylo will only accept Simple-Profile (SP) mpeg-4 videos, which is sort of a let down since most mpeg-4 files now use Advanced Video Coding (AVC), PSP’s and iPods currently use this format.
You don’t necessarily have to use PSPvideo9 to transfer the video to the mylo, but the PSPvideo9 is vital for converting videos to the correct format.
I’ve had a few problems in the past with converting mpeg-4 AVC videos to SP, if you run into this problem, I’d recommend trying to find the video in another format such as AVI. Let me know how things go, good luck!
December 16th, 2006 at 11:46 am
Ok, just for some background I was converting some small AVI files of some UFC fighting to the mylo. I made the settings exactly the same and it worked! Thanks a ton for your help and especially your quick reply. I think the trick was in the reconverting.
December 19th, 2006 at 8:53 am
I was only able to successfully transfer only one file to the mylo. I did everything the same as your direction. I always get the “I/O device error.” what gives…can you help?
December 19th, 2006 at 11:09 am
I’m assuming you were able to get successful video playback on the file you were able to transfer, so it shouldn’t be an encoding issue, so we’ll focus on the transfer.
I recommend trying to transfer the video file manually to the mylo. To do so, start by locating the video you encoded using PSPvideo9, this should be found in the folder you selected for “Out-put Videos to:” which can be found under the settings tab, mine for example is set to “C:\MP_ROOT\100MNV01″ which is the default folder if you don’t adjust the settings. You can navigate to this folder by using Windows Explorer. Once you have that folder opened, you will notice videos are consisted of two parts, the video itself and the thumbnail of the video which appears in the video selection screen of the mylo. Mylo video files are typically named M4VXXXXX.mp4, where the X’s are should be numbers, which change depending on how many videos you’ve encoded. Leave this window open for now.
You’ve located your videos on your computer, but we still need to locate the correct video folder on the mylo to transfer the files to. When the mylo is connected to the computer through the USB cord, the mylo acts as a USB drive, the mylo’s drives should show up under Start > My Computer. It can be tricky to identify which drive is the mylo’s drive. Look into each drive folder, except your? hard drive folders(C:\ for example)? and inside the correct drive folder you should see a folder named MP_ROOT and inside that folder is the 100MNV01 folder or a similar name. This is where you want your videos to be placed in the 100MNV01 folder. Drag and drop your videos and the file transfer should take about 2-5 mins depending on the video’s size. Unplug and try playing the video on the mylo.
You can also try doing a full reset on your mylo, by taking the battery out for a moment. Then try transfering the video through the instructions given in the Guide.
If you could give me more details about your problem, that would be great. I hope this helps.
December 20th, 2006 at 2:49 pm
Thank you iron cook. However, I did what you have suggested “drag and drop” and the same thing happened. “I/O device error” So what I decided to do is encode another file a different file that was not bittorrent download and it worked. I guess those files that I downloaded though bittorrent is weird. It can’t be transfer over to the mylo even after I encoded. Thank you.

I would just like to say that you’ve done a really great job with the ‘how-to’ and appreciate your help.
Thanks
December 29th, 2006 at 7:28 pm
I have been trying to convert a video using Video 9 to my mylo. I follow your instructions thoroughly. When I go to transfer the video it does not ask me to create a folder. It automatically transfers the video. When I go to my mylo and click on video on the MS DUO stick-it says no video. If I go under tools and file manager and MS Duo, MP_Root, 100MNV01 the files are there labeled: MAQ20003.THM & MAQ2003.mp4. Can you help me to figure out what I am doing wrong? THANK YOU SO MUCH. Mary
December 30th, 2006 at 12:03 am
Hi Mary,
Sorry for the late response. From the information you gave me it appears to be a format issue, the file is correctly placed, but in the wrong format. Instead of MAQ20003 both files should appear as M4V20003.
Three places to double-check
1. Go to the profiles tab and make sure you have your Mylo profile selected. In the section labeled “Video Settings” check the Mode field, it should say “SP > CBR”. If the Mode field was different from what I listed above, then you’ve found the problem, at this point try encoding another video with your new settings.
2. If you already had the profile setup correctly, the other problem could be at the converting step. Depending on which button you used to convert will make all the difference in locating the problem. If you used the “One-Click Transcode” button, the problem should be found under the Settings tab, One-Click Profile field, make sure it’s set to the mylo profile you created.
3. If you used the “Transcode New Video” button to convert your video, then most likely you either selected the wrong profile, or did not select any profile and went with the default setting, to correct this choose your mylo profile you created in the Quality Profile field.
After making any corrections try encoding with the new settings and let me know how it goes, good luck!

Hey,
I was just curious about how long it takes to convert because it has been at 0% for quite awhile now. Everything has been increasing as if it is normal but its still at 0%.
December 31st, 2006 at 7:30 am
Ahhh hang on. I got it now.. It stayed at 0% for quite awhile and then it went straight to 100%.. Thankyou for the how-to!

Hey,
Does anyone know how to get AIM on the mylo or update flash?
December 31st, 2006 at 11:11 pm
Mike,
I’m afraid neither is possible, the closest you will get to AIM is eBuddy.com, which will use the opera browser to access aim. The browser version of AIM requires you to refresh each time to check for new messages, which is a bit of a hassle.
As for flash, there is currently no way to get flash on the mylo opera browser. You can only hope Sony will release a firmware update giving the browser this capability in the future. I hope that helps.

Iron Cook,
Just wanted to say how awesome you are. I have been trying to do this ever since I have gotten a Mylo and am really super happy I can finnaly do it. I bought a new 2GB memory stick to store other vids on and every thing just works perfectly. Anyway just wanted to congratulate you and hope you had a good New Year. On question though, I have a video I filmed and edited together etc etc. It is listed as a video clip and for some reason cannot convert it. Whenever I do, Quicktime (or any other program) says it is not a movie file (after conversion). The conversion takes less than a second and obviously does not convert. This is a prized “movie” of mine and it would be great if you could help.
I’ll check your comments later.
January 2nd, 2007 at 3:36 pm
Iron Cook,
Something else I wanted to ask. I used Videodora Ipod Converter (which I found before the pspvid9) and converted a bunch of files to MPEG4 so they are playable on my iPod. But, as I have figured out, a plain MPEG4 file cannot be played on a Mylo. You need a thumbnail, I personally would rather not spend the extra time to convert all my vids again. Is there anyway to create a thumbnail manually (or with a separate program, if not pspvid9). Is there anyway to do this (create a thumbnail) so I do not have to convert all the vids again. If there is give me a heads up.
Thx.
January 2nd, 2007 at 3:40 pm
Mike, I was scrolling through the comments and I happened to notice yours regarding AIM on Mylo. I have really been wanting this too, furthermore I did some research. I did a few things, first off I called SONY and talked to a rep. They said the mylo may hav AIM in one of its next firmware updates, possibly in 2007. Also, after doing some internet research, I heard that it may (just may) be possible to get aim through GOOGLE TALK, which comes preloaded with the mylo. But that is just a rumor. Hopefully that helps, and I hope I’m not takign limelight away from Iron Cook, just trying to give my advice.
Thats all I got, for now.
January 2nd, 2007 at 8:59 pm
Kyle,
Concerning your first question, about your attempt to convert the video you filmed, if possible could you tell me what the original format of the video was before you attempted to convert?
For the second question, I’m afraid you’ll have to reconvert your whole library. The problem lies in the profiles used during the video conversions. iPods use the AVC (Advanced Video Coding) for their Mpeg-4 videos, while the mylo uses SP (Simple Profile). AVC is preferred over SP, mainly because of improved video compression, why Sony chose to use SP for the mylo is still a mystery to me. So regardless of the missing thumbnails, you will still need to convert all the videos to Mpeg-4 SP, I know it’s a real pain I went through the same exact problem. One more obstacle you might face, if you try to convert your iPod Mpeg-4 AVC videos to Mpeg-4 SP, some of the videos may not convert properly, from my experience. I had to use the original videos for conversion.
Regarding your last comment about mylo AIM, that sounds like great news, I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
Your comment was very helpful Kyle, you are definitely not stealing limelight from anyone, you are simply helping a fellow reader. That’s the beauty of the commenting system, readers are able to help one another, sort of like a community.
My readers will always know more than I do on any given subject, that’s why I feel comments are important in providing the readers with additional information from the community.
Questions are also of great benefit, answering one reader’s question not only helps that one reader, but all the future readers that visit the guide with the same question.
In short, Thank you Kyle.

i have a problem, i followed all of the steps listed on this page and changes but when i try to copy the video to the mylo the file appears as FILE IN USE and it copys it to the mylo but also says that the file is in use nad when y try to view it appears as Unsuported Data. can any pleas help
January 9th, 2007 at 2:31 pm
on my comment i added earlier i forgot to add that after i convert the videos the file size appears as 0 mb
January 9th, 2007 at 2:59 pm
Rob,
That is definitely a puzzling problem you have there. What is the format of the original video you are trying to encode and have you tried encoding other videos?
January 19th, 2007 at 5:44 pm
Iron Cook,
Sorry I’m getting back so late. I have been in Seattle with family and got back a couple of night ago, and since then have had the stomach flu…but I’m fighting through it. Hope your New Years is going along well. Anyway thanks for the positive feedback and I plan to start my own MYLO blog for fellow MYLO questionnaires. Everybody has questions, I just do the research.
Anyway to answer your first question, my original video format was…well I think that is where the problem kicks in. I’m not exactly sure what the original form of it was. I believe it was AVI. But I cannot be to sure. I’m still stuck on that and was able to find one overcostly converter that could convert the first 3 minutes of it for free (on a trial). But even those few minutes had a huge white stamp on it which named whatever the converter was called. I have found these programs just fill up my ever smaller hard drive.
I was afraid I would have to convert my whole library. So far I have about half converted. But it annoys me how it has to convert it twice (somewhere in your directions you change the setting for that.) But whatever I get by…thanks for the help though.
Lastly…I HAVE A GIANT BREAKTHROUGH FOR MYLO ON AIM. Recently (if some of you didn’t know) Google bought out 5% of AOL. An article is located http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20051221-5814.html, there. And now (with a little bit of Jabber and some extent use of open servers) you are able to access AIM through Google TALK. Furthermore getting AIM on MYLO. It doesn’t work perfectly but it works much better than AIMONPSP or EBUDDY MYLO. Furthermore if you plan to do this like I already have follow these simple steps located http://www.techlifeweb.com/2006/12/how-to-use-google-talk-and-gmail-with.html, there. It takes about 15-30 minutes. But it is absolutely worth it.
Hopefully I can post my blog sight sooner or later.
Kyle
PS. I have never created a blog before, what is the easiest to use for a beginner. Google Blog?
January 19th, 2007 at 5:47 pm
PS Rob.
To reply to comment #18 submitted by you I just wanted to point out that I get that same problem with many vids. The answer tends to be that either -PSPVIDEO9 doesn’t support that file type. -That File you are trying to convert really is in use. -Or lastly that file is protected.
Hope that Helps,
Kyle
January 19th, 2007 at 9:52 pm
Kyle,
Glad to have you back Kyle, sorry to hear about your sickness though, I hope you make a speedy recovery. I know how I feel when I’m sick, all I can think of is getting well again, it’s funny how little we appreciate good health until it is lost.
The mylo blog sounds like a great idea, I’m sure a lot of mylo users would love to get all their mylo related information from one convenient source. I’d definitely recommend Google’s Blogger, I started out with blogger and I must say it’s very intuitive. I also enjoyed the fact that users don’t need to know a thing about coding to use blogger effectively. I wish you well on your new blog, please drop by and let me know the address when you get things rolling.
I wish I could be of more assistance to you, but the AVI hint leads me to another dead end. AVI files are simply wrappers, they can contain a range of different video codecs, which codec your AVI video is using I am still uncertain of.
I did some searching and found a program that should be able to look inside the AVI wrapper.
http://www.headbands.com/gspot/v26x/quick_start.html
Once you get the program installed and running, open original video with the application and look under the sections “video” and “container”, this should tell us what codec your video is using. Once we learn what video codec is being used, we can find the correct video converter to handle the job.
If you could tell me what device you used to record the video (Brand/Model), that could clue me in on what format the video was recorded in also.
Hopefully we get this issue resolved soon.
January 24th, 2007 at 5:34 pm
Iron Cook,
Thanks for getting back to me. I fell about 99.9% better but still with somewhat of a headache. Anyway, thanks for the ideas for blogs and I will definantly begin one as soon as my life allows. And I’d be happy to post the link to it here. Anyway I am still uncertain of anything about this video. And have begun near to giving up on it. Anyway just to clue you in, the camera model was one of my very first called a Digital Blue Video Camera…which to me sounds very kiddish as I recently upgraded to an HDTV 30GB hard drive. Anyway any advice would be great but I am on the verge of giving up.
Thanks,
Kyle
PS. I will look into downloading the Headbands GSPOT converter. As of right now I need to clear up some space of my near full hd.
January 24th, 2007 at 6:44 pm
Kyle,
I was looking through the Digital Blue website and found there was two models, Digital Movie Creator and Digital Movie Creator 2.0. I’m not sure which version you have, but I found one snippet of information interesting. This refers to the 2.0 version of the device.
I was wondering if you could possibly try exporting the video as a WMV instead of AVI, then encoding may work.
January 25th, 2007 at 7:09 am
Iron Cook,
Alright thanks I’ll give that a shot when i get a chance. I’ll give you the news on whethere I can output it as a WMV. By the way I also created my first blog…MYLO blog that is.
It is at http://themylogger.blogspot.com/
Go check it out!
Kyle
PS. I appreciate all the help you’ve given me so much. Thanks a billion.
February 10th, 2007 at 1:25 pm
Hey, um the thing that Kyle posted before about AIM through Gtalk on the Sony Mylo, is that true? Can it work?
March 2nd, 2007 at 2:19 pm
I just bought the mylo, and was wondering why media manager will not work as a converting tool? Also, is there any other video converting tool than vid-9?
March 2nd, 2007 at 3:29 pm
Owen,
The media manager software that comes bundled with the mylo does not convert videos because Sony is selling the software capable of this for additional profit, called Image Converter 2. There are other alternatives to the PSP video9 software, I’ve heard of FFmpegX that is both on Mac and PC. There is a few others such as Nero Transcoder, but that cost money 8(.
The guide may seem like a lot of steps, but it’s only the initial setup process. Once the settings are in place, encoding videos will be a matter of 2-3 clicks and then waiting for the transcoding to finish.
If you have any problems converting videos for the mylo with PSP Video9 let me know and I’ll see what I can do. Thanks for dropping by and enjoy your mylo 8).
April 17th, 2007 at 3:06 pm
is it possible to get msn on the mylo?or any games?
April 17th, 2007 at 3:35 pm
Robert,
Not that I know of, the closest you can get to MSN messenger is ebuddy.com, and the performance on that is pretty horrible. The main problem with using ebuddy.com to access MSN is you have to keep refreshing the browser screen to check when you receive new messages. Also, ebuddy.com is a site in development, it’s always changing so if MSN messenger worked back when I tried it, there’s no guarantee it will work now, so in short I wouldn’t take my chances picking a mylo up if MSN messenger is the main feature you were planning to use.
No games can be installed on the mylo either currently.
Let me know if you have any other questions, thanks for dropping by Robert.
June 29th, 2007 at 6:04 am
hey, i find your guide really usefull and i have used it to successfully transfer files from my pc to my mylo. But recently i tried transfering a few files again and they transfered and i got an error message ( file Corrupted). I know this problem has occured before so i quickly fixed it by following ur settings but now when i try to encode the video with the new settings all it says is
Making 1st Pass
Making 2nd Pass
Transconding Complete
but when i try to find the video there is nothing. except a file that i cannot use.Can you help me out?
Thanks. hope to hear from you soon
June 29th, 2007 at 10:51 am
When you try to encode the video does it still take the normal amount of time, or does the program take a matter of seconds to encode? Do other videos work with your current settings, or does this problem only occur with a single video. Another reason you may be getting corrupted videos is because of multitasking. When encoding videos you shouldn’t do any CPU intensive task.
August 5th, 2007 at 9:27 am
any news or updates about AIM being included in a Mylo firmware update? People hvae not said a peep in m onths.
Keith
August 5th, 2007 at 10:43 am
Locutus,
As far as I know no AIM has been including in firmware updates. Although I did read rumors about a mylo 2 in the works, supposedly mylo 2 will have more chat options available but nothing confirmed as of yet.
I really wish Sony would give the mylo real updates, like the Nokia N800. I’ve seen the Nokia N800 go from flash 7 support to flash 9, finally allowing people to enjoy sites like youtube on the go, definitely major improvements. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Nokia continue to support the N800 further with additional updates.
August 9th, 2007 at 12:11 pm
I’ve tried to convert an AVI file, and it worked, but when I transfer it to my mylo, it doesn’t show up under Video. However, when I look in File Manager, I see both the .mp4 and the .jpg file in the MP_ROOT\100MNV01 folder. Any ideas?
August 9th, 2007 at 6:29 pm
Insanity,
The only thing I can think of at the moment is double checking the settings page of your PSPvideo9 software and making sure it’s set to the same drive letter as your Sony Mylo.
Let me know how things go, I hope it was a simple mismatch in drive letters.
August 27th, 2007 at 4:46 pm
how much does it cost to use the mylo for free with skype. is skype free if not is there anything i can get for my mylo that will let me make free mylo to phone calls
August 27th, 2007 at 5:02 pm
Evan,
I haven’t used the mylo for some time now, but if my memory serves me correctly, I believe the only way to make phone calls using the mylo is through Skypeout which will cost money. The problem with the mylo is, it’s closed platform, meaning third parties can’t write software for it unless they are working directly with Sony, that’s why we are stuck with Skype as our only option for VOIP on the mylo.
September 18th, 2007 at 5:39 pm
I’m having issues with the putting of videos on my mylo. The videos go through the process and end up one my mylo, but when I want to play it, it doesn’t let me. Letters show up in gray rather then white and it says “Unsupported Data.” And when I go to the properties of it from my mylo, it says the following:
Time: –:–:– (0 KB)
Save: 09.18.2007 07:24 PM
File Name: M4V10001.MP4
Folder: Internal\MP_ROOT\100MNV01
Codec: — —kbps/— —kbps
If anyone has ther solution to this problem, please e-mail me at biggred1212@yahoo.com
or, reply. But, I’d prefer for you to send me an e-mail because there is a possibility that i won’t check this.
September 19th, 2007 at 9:23 pm
NEVER MIND. i’ve found the problem. I was tring to transfer a quicktime file.
September 27th, 2007 at 2:18 am
I’m having a similar issue as Selvin C. above getting the “Unsupported Data” message when trying to access the MP4 from my Mylo. The difference between my file and Selvins is that its properties show a file size of 903.2MB instead of OKB. Here is my converted file info from the Mylo.
Time: –:–:– (903.2 MB)
Save: 09.27.2007 05:36
File Name: M4V10004.MP4
Folder: M.S. Duo\MP_ROOT\100MNV01
Codec: — —kbps/— —kbps
Anyone have any ideas why this is happening? I thought I had followed the above steps exactly. Thanks for the support.
November 16th, 2007 at 4:06 pm

January 29th, 2008 at 9:58 am
Does anybody know what other MPEG-4 limitations Sony PSP or Mylo have?
They are both claimed to support MPEG-4 Simple Profile up to a certain bitrate.
My file has the avg. bitrate 129 Kbps, max bitrate 179 Kbps.
I tried a couple of videos with MPEG-4 SP Level 2 which could not be decoded. Is data partitioning in MPEG-4 supported?
February 4th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
Gvidon,
The Mylo is pretty limited hardware wise, it will only support MPEG-4 Simple Profile with a bitrate totaling 832kbps for Audio/Video (64/768). As for the PSP, it supports MPEG-4 AVC Baseline Profile, provides better video compression but requires more processing power.
February 5th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
Hey IC I did all that above but I can’t see it on the mylo what I’m I doing wrong?
Thanx
Nik
February 7th, 2008 at 4:01 pm
Nik,
Sorry about the late reply, are you still having problems getting the video to display on the mylo?

I got all my videos converted to the file format that i need them to be, but they are all AVC videos, rather than SP videos. If you could, please let me know how to get them to change into SP videos. I’ve been trying to get videos on my Mylo for along time and this is the closest that I’ve gotten so far. Thanks!!

Does anyone no how to use this software 2 uploaded vids on a mylo Thanx so much
March 30th, 2008 at 3:12 am
When I want to copy the file to my mylo, all it tells me i this “Canot copy file: Cannot read from the source or disk.” It goes straight to that message rather than the “create ne file” message. If anyone knows the solution, please email me at biggred1212@yahoo.com

Hello Sue,
Sorry about the late replies, I’ve been real busy lately, if you could please tell me which part of the guide is not working for you I’d be happy to assist.
Selvin C.,
Make sure the memory stick or Sony Mylo you are copying the video to is set to be writable, you can write click on the external drive icon found in “my computer” section and go to Properties to see if it is writable.

Sue,
I’d double check the device folder step, there should be two possible drive letters you could place the mylo videos, either on the mylo’s internal memory or the mylo’s external memory. While you’re mylo is connected go to Start > My Computer and see if there is any new drives, there should be two additional drives available once you’ve connected the Sony Mylo to your computer, you can use either drive letter. Let me know how things go, good luck Sue!

Hi IC
I just did what u told Sue and I don’t c any drives on my computer
April 5th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
I got the A1 psp converter and a crack for it. It works fine. However, after I dragged it over to the Mylo, I can scroll to videos and see it there but it says “cannot play this file. The file is damaged” Any insight into this? I dragged the converted vid and thumb into the folder.
April 9th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
My computer sees the drives of the mylo and the pro duo stick. But when I use the a1 psp video converter and use the output folder of the mylo, nothing shows up at all on the mem stick. Is it maybe a settings issue with the converter? The video bitrate I chose is 800 kbits, audio sample of 24000 Hz, and 128 kbits audio. Now it says “unsupported data” when I see it in the Mylo.

I have the same problem as daywalker…..I put videos and music on my mylo easy…..but when i put them on my Memory Stick, the videos and music don’t show up so that i can listen or view them……Why is that?
Thanks

I’d try going with a lower bit rate on the video, I’ve found 768kbps worked well for me. My hands are sorta tied, I no longer own a Sony Mylo so it’s tough for me to run any test, the settings I posted were what worked for me originally, I updated the guide using the latest software version with the same settings as the original guide.
We’ll have to rely on each other to problem solve these issues, so if you know something the rest of us don’t, don’t hesitate to jump in and share with us, it would be a great deal of help.
Let me know if lowering the Video bit rate solves the issue for you daywalker.
Hey Nik, thanks for being so patient I know I haven’t been exactly the best webmaster when it comes to responding in a reasonable time frame.
When posting problems, please be as descriptive as possible, thanks everyone.

Nik,
I’d double check to make sure the device folder is correct, if you have your computer selected instead of your mylo’s drive selected, it would only take a faction of a second to copy that onto your own computer b/c it’s already there, so it would seem as if nothing happened.

Thanks Iron Cook.
I’ve been struggling to get videos on my mylo for a long time, and this did it! Its really nice of you to help everybody out like you do.

I decided to try the PSP vid 9 you talked about above. It works great now. So, I have another breakthrough. Since the movie files are generally large, what I do is first rip a DVD with DVD decrypter. Once that is done, you can then use AutoGK to convert it to an .avi file unless you already have one. If you have .avi files or other types like .wma, mpg-4, or others besides the .vob’s from ripping, then you can skip using dvd decrypter. That is only for ripping dvd’s not already in .avi file formats. Anyway, you can take the above-mentioned formats and load them into a media converter to convert it to a .3gpp file. I used Nokia Media Converter (free). What this does is to strip all the uneccesary crap you don’t need like subtitles, dolby, features and whatnot. Here is an example of what I’m driving at. You want as many movies as possible on your Mylo right? So, a ripped dvd file or .avi file of a dvd is about 600-900 MB. The Nokia media converter scales it down to 10% of that leaving you with a roughly 60-90MB file with stereo. The quality is still good but now, you can fit a ton of movies on there. So, internally, a 1GB memory will hold approximately 10-15 movies. Imagine an 8GB stick! I ripped “Office Space” and took the .3gpp file and dropped it onto my Motorola Rokr phone too. That is the type of file the cell phones read generally. Anyway, you can then convert the .3gpp file to your Mylo and enjoy. I know I do!

Daywalker,
Thanks for sharing with us your excellent tips for getting more movies onto the Sony mylo, this is the stuff I normally find in forums like Doom9.

Nik,
I could use 1 screenshot of your desktop, once is your my computer folder, which shows all the drives on your computer, take a screenshot of that, make sure your sony mylo is connected before you take the screen shot. Then tell me what your device folder is set to in the converter program, you can email me the screenshot at spicygadget[at]gmail.com replace [at] with @, I have to type it that way to avoid spammers.

hello. I have mylo com-2. I heard it can play mp4 avc file. but it can’t. when I converted it as mpeg4, it worked well. but it doesn’ t look clean enough. when I tried to play mp4 avc, it said “this format is not supported.” please help me. what’s wrong with it????
May 6th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
and… one more… what firmware version do I have to put if I want to encode the file into avc? I put 1.5 as you said. but it only can covert mp4.
