If you’ve been reading GOW related forums like I have then you’ve probably saw some signs of uncertainty, as to whether or not Epic would meet the release date of November 6th. I’ll admit I was feeling some of that uncertainty as well, but with the recent news that GOW went gold two days ago, all my doubts have faded.
With the release date of November 6 looking concrete I’d like to tackle some frequently asked questions concerning Gears of War for PC.
Q: I heard GOW for PC is a “Games for Windows” title, does that mean it’s Vista only?
Nope, Epic already stated that Windows XP users will also be able to enjoy GOW for PC.
Q: Will we have to pay to play online like we did for Xbox live, since GOW for PC is using Games for Windows Live service?
Online play is free with a Silver account, the Gold account on the other hand cost money, but isn’t really necessary. One of the bonuses of going with the Gold account is for the skill matching, but like I said, not really necessary.
Q: Will we be able to play against Xbox360 players?
Nope, only PC to PC.
Q: Will I be able to play GOW for PC with a Xbox360 gamepad?
Yes, Epic made it possible to even switch between keyboard/mouse and gamepad during play without the need to restart the game.
Q: Will GOW be ruined by the pin point accuracy of mice?
Epic did take mice into account when adjusting the game for PC, guns will now have much more recoil to provide mouse users more of a challenge, think counter-strike. If you switch to gamepad controls the recoil will be greatly reduced.
Q: Is online coop still available in GOW for PC?
Yes
Q: GOW on Xbox 360 wasn’t exactly a level playing field due to host advantage, will GOW for PC have dedicated servers?
This is a question I’d like Epic to answer too. I don’t know for sure, but I feel it’s highly likely.
Q: Will there be a GOW for PC demo?
Doesn’t seem there will be one, but to get a good idea of how GOW for PC will perform on your system I’d recommend running the UT3 demo.
